About the Journal

PRESENTATION

As the official scientific publication of the Instituto Junguiano de São Paulo (IJUSP), Self's mission is to disseminate and promote the exchange of Jungian thought and contribute to the development of scientific production in the field of analytic psychology.

Intended for researchers, students and professionals dedicated to the study and application of Jungian thought and for people interested in subjects related to the field of analytic psychology, Self's objectives are:

(a) becoming a publication of renowned scientific quality, open to all trends and approaches in the field of analytic psychology, establishing itself as a legitimate democratic channel of dissemination of Jungian thought, in Brazil and worldwide;

(b) being a multidisciplinary publication that disseminates diverse  subjects of interest for society, keeping an interface with Jungian thought; and

(c) becoming a reference for the education of Jungian analysts.

To reach this level, Self is guided by the following ethical values:

(a) respect to all that contribute for its existence: editors, authors, ad hoc reviewers, technical staff and readers;

(b) democratization of the access to knowledge;

(c) incentive to the development of scientific research in the field of analytic psychology; and

(d) publish work from researchers of all areas of knowledge related to the area of analytic psychology.

Self is published exclusively in electronic form; it continuously disseminates work according to the  rolling pass policy. In respect to the principle of democratization of knowledge, open and free access is granted to all its contents.

Manuscripts submitted for publication undergo a double-anonymous evaluation process by peers, assuring the scientific quality of the texts published, regardless of Jungian thought streams that may be represented in every text.

Self publishes original and unedited work from Brazilian and foreign authors, in Portuguese, Spanish and English. After being approved for publication, the texts submitted in Portuguese and Spanish will be translated into English, and texts submitted in English will be translated into Portuguese. As of 2025, the authors with approved articles commit to provide  them translated by translators, specialized in Jungian psychology, accredited by IJUSP. The Editorial Secretariat has to authorize the translation, after the work has been reviewed (in the original language) and normalized, and is ready for publication.

The journal also fully adopts the “Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association (WMA) – Ethical principles for Medical Research Involving Human Beings”.

All Self collaborators assume the responsibility of performing their activities in accordance with the ethical values of both declarations, assuring that all the appropriate ethical procedures have been followed in each and every research, whether or not they involve human beings.

The same guidance applies for  scientific reviewers (ad hoc reviewers) of manuscripts, who, in case of a potential conflict of interest, have to declare themselves unable of evaluating a paper. Examples of this are knowledge of the manuscripts' authors or lack of familiarity with the area of study of the work.

Members of the journal's Editors Board also should inform the existence of eventual conflict of interest.

Cases in which there are doubts about the existence or not of potential conflicts of interest will be arbitrated by Self's chief editor.
